Bruckner wird in einer Konzertbesprechung in The Guardian Nr. 2774 (London) auf S. 24 erwähnt (mit leiser Kritik an der Werkdauer):
"                      Music.
     The Queen's-hall Symphony Concerts were resumed on Saturday with a programme [... unvermeidliche Russen, Griegs "Symphonische Tänze" ... über den Missbrauch des Begriffs "symphonisch" durch moderne Komponisten ...]. To most of them it seems to be equivalent to "scored for full modern orchestra, special prominence being assigned to the heavy brass and instruments of percussion." Now "symphonic" has nothing to do with noise or length, as these gentlemen seem to imagine. It connotes structural characteristics, treatment, and the spirit in which the work is approached. There are symphonies of Haydn and Mozart which take only half as long in performance as those of Bruckner and require less than half the number of players, and yet are ten times more truly symphonic.
