Besprechung des gestrigen Konzerts in The Boston Globe Nr. 166 auf S. 2:
"             BOSTON CECILIA SOCIETY.
Bruckner's "Grand Te Deum" Given for the First Time Here–Notable Soloists Assist the Chorus.
The 20th season of the Cecilia society was opened in Symphony hall last evening under Mr Lang's direction, the choral body having the assistance of the following soloists: Mrs Corinne Rider-Kelsey, Mrs Bertha Cushing-Child, Miss Lilla Ormond. Ellison Van Hoose, Stephen Townsend and Charles Delmont. An audience of goodly proportions and lacking much enthusiasm listened to the following selections: Bruckner's "Grand Te Deum.", Debussy's "Blessed Damozel," and "Hiawatha," music by S. Coleridge-Taylor.
Mr Lang should be well satisfied with the general result obtained by his chorus last evening, for the members sang with commendable spirit and responded promptly in attack, shadings and tempo, as required by the conductor. The tenors were hardly able to hold their own at times with the other choirs of th chorus, but aside from that, the choral work was highly satisfactory.
The Bruckner "Te Deum," which was sung in Latin, revealed a composition of great impressiveness written in the usual canonical form with here and there a touch of the operatic style in the four-part choruses. It is richly scored and contains an odd effect several times repeated where the chorus sings with the orchestra, introducing a lot of reiterated notes in staccato. The climax of the piece is splendidly developed. The quartet, Mrs Kelsey, Miss Ormond, Mr Van Hoose and Mr Delmont, sustained their share of the performance effectiveness, their voices harmonized well. The work was given for the first time in this city.
In the Debussy number [... Solisten, "Hiawatha" ...]. The orchestra, especially in the "Te Deum," gave efficient aid." [keine Signatur]
