Arnold Schönberg rechnet in einem Artikel im »Merker« Bruckner mit Wagner, Liszt und Hugo Wolf zu den Modernen (*).

 

The Manchester Guardian Nr. 19704 kündigt auf S. 6 die Aufführung einer Bruckner-Symphonie [prov. WAB 86] in der kommenden Saison an, signiert "S. L.":

"                THE HALLE CONCERTS.

    The prospectus now issued by the Hallé Concerts Society for the coming season differs in important ways from the forecast given at the summer meeting. [... Chorwerke ... Hans Richter ...].

     Among the instrumental works a noble independence is also shown in the choice of a symphony by Bruckner, Strauss's "Don Quixote," which is to be produced at the last instrumental concert, [... keine Opern ... nur 3 englische Werke ...]. But whatever the scheme lacks in novelty, it certainly promises a continual feast of majestic music.
