                         FRANZ SCHALK.

     Herr Franz Schalk was born in Vienna, and studied there; he wa first trained as  a violinist at the Vienna Conservatoire, and later he underwent the course of composition with Anton Bruckner, whose great symphonies are practically still unknown in our country.
