Josef Stranskys Reaktion auf den Leserbrief vom 25.1.1912 wird in der New York Tribune Nr. 23813 auf S. 6 veröffentlicht:
" PHILHARMONIC PROGRAMMES
Mr. Stransky Denies Any Neglect of French Composers.
To the Editor of The Tribune.
Sir: Permit me to submit a few lines in reply to David A. Modell, whose letter appeared in The Tribune yesterday.
By an odd coincidence on the very day when Mr. Modell speaks of my alleged neglect of French composers the Carnegie Hall house programme of last evening [... Vorschau auf Kommendes: am 1./2.2.1912 nur französische Musik! auch in späteren Konzerten ... Schwierigkeiten bei der Planung (u. a. Solisten) sind zu bedenken ...].
From the reproach that I neglect admired masterpieces I should certainly be spared. An unprejudiced glance at the programme of the season will show the injustice of such criticism, for many works of masters, ancient and modern, appear. That a hearing was given to the symphonies of Bruckner and Weingartner is, in my opinion, no cause for condemnation. America has the same right as Europe to hear works which stimulate the mind, and a public so musical as that of the New York Philharmonic Society must be interested in hearing new works and in forming an opinion about them. [... Argumentation anhand der bisherigen Konzerte ...].
I beg that you will grant a place for this letter in your esteemed journal, and I would emphasize that this is my last word on the subject. I desire no controversy, and shall not allow myself to be drawn into any further discussion.
JOSEF STRANSKY.
New York, Jan. 26, 1912."
