"SAENGERBUND'S LAST CONCERT OF THE SEASON

     With a programme ushered in by America, and closing with The Star Spangled Banner, the Buffalo Saengerbund under Dr. Carl Winning's direction gave last evening in Elmwood Music hall, one of the best concerts in his existance. Some beautiful examples of choral writing were presented ans the chorus was assisted by three admirable local soloists.

     The programme was unpretentious, all the unaccompanied numbers being simple in construction, but of genuine charm. [... Pasche, Baldamus, Dixie Land ...]. Choruses by Bruckner and Wagner were sung with piano, George Lowry being an efficient accompanist for the chorus, as well as for one of the soloists.

     Miss Mabel Strock, soprano; Herman Gahwe, bass, and Franz Wister, violinist, gave much pleasure in their solo numbers. [... u. a. Reger, Schumann, Elgar, Mozart, Schubert, Sarasate ...] aroused most enthusiastic applause. Dr. Winning acted as accompanist for Miss Strock and Mr. Wister.     M. M. H."
