"            THE BEECHAM PROMENADE CONCERTS.
The audience at the Promenade Concerts has kept its solidity marvellously so far [... u. a. über die Geschichte und Entwicklung der Symphonie ... Schubert "Unvollendete" ...]. When it was taken up later by Schumann it was as an alien and antiquarian form, and this attitude is hardly less felt in the later and more natural symphonists, Bruckner and Brahms. The reading of the symphony last night by Mr. Eugene Gossens, sen., had both tenderness and sternness [... Sibelius, Mozart, Gesangssolostücke ...].        S. L."
