The Baltimore Sun Nr. 4 (Baltimore, Maryland) bringt auf S. 34 (= S. 2 des 3. Teils) einen ausführlichen Artikel über die Einseitigkeit der Symphonien-Auswahl in den Konzerten:
"THROUGH OUR OWN OPERA GLASSES
WHY is a Symphony Orchestra? Why, I ask you, why?
I mean, does any symphony society exist merely that it may go on playing the works of the classic masters, year in and year out, season after season, month after month [... beklagt die Einseitigkeit und die Beschränkung auf das Standard-Repertoire, auch bei den gastierenden Orchestern (Beispiele aus jüngster Zeit - immer Beethoven und Brahms, und Boykott von Skrjabin) ... ]. Is modern music really too undignified to be made part of the actual repertoire of a symphony society?
[... oder auch: symphonische Dichtungen (Ravel, Debussy) ...].
As a matter of fact there are many symphonies that even if they have been played here, are so "unfamiliar" as to be "as good as new," and certainly there are many that are entirely unknown by Baltimore concertgoers. There is, for instance, [... Gilchrist, d'Indy, Rimski-Korsakow ("Antar"), Balakireff ...] and the one in E minor by Rachmaninoff. Anton Bruckner wrote nine symphonies, some of which it would be interesting to hear in spite of the fact that he was a disciple of Wagner. He is dead, so no royalties would accrue to his benefit. There are symphonies by Mahler and there is Elgar's "English" symphony. [... weitere Beispiele ...]
[... das Musikempfinden sei viel konventioneller als im Theater oder in der bildenden Kunst ... die Orchester könnten ihre Pläne ändern ...]."
