The Standard Union Nr. 23 (Brooklyn, New York) kommentiert auf S. 10 die neuen österreichischen Briefmarken [darunter IKO 142]:
"           Austria's Homage to Music.
Prior to the cataclysm which carried away most or Europe's crowned heads, continental postage stamps were adorned with the likenesses of sovereigns. Thereafter it was incumbent for the Cabinet member who ruled over the destinies of the mail service to find an "ersatz," a task not so easy as it looks. There is always grumbling [... ein Beispiel aus den USA ...].
The Vienna Cabinet had a happy inspiration! The fame of the city on the beautiful blue Danube rests no less on song and music than upon her art in frying chickens. So, while a fried chicken would not look impressive on a postage stamp, the likeness of a celebrated composer does.
Hence this glorious idea was put in execution. The tone-heroes so selected are Haydn, [Mozart fehlt], Beethoven, Schubert, Bruckner, Johann Strauss, Hugo Wolff, all Austrians except Beethoven, who, however, passed the major part of his life in Vienna.
So far, so good. But here comes the puzzle: Bruckner and Wolff adorn the high-priced stamps, while the more famous rest has been chosen for the cheap stamps.
There is this to be said fore it: Most people rejoice in the older style of music; also most people use the cheaper stamps. How many of the common people know of Wolff?
It would be interesting to know whether the name of Eric Korngold, who represents "the last cry" in music, had been under consideration."
