"          Facing the Music
An Open Letter to Santa Claus
Dear Santa Claus
All but a few of the concert packages you sent me last year have been opened, and now I want to thank you for the whole lot. All of them were not prize bags [...] were better than before.
There was the Zimbalist package [... Stokowski, "the jack-in-the-box Furtwaengler who wasn't a clown at all" ... weitere Künstler ...]. For all these we are thankful. In the next breath, I am about to register new requests, so you won't fail to plan for me and some friends during the long summer.
[... Solistenwünsche ... für das Publikum] some cough drops or throat ease; some watches that run accurately; a set of song records, so they will know how long to delay their applause; and a book of concert etiquette that explains why it is bad manners to whisper too loud during the music [...]
[... Komponistenwunschzettel ...]. We could easily forego "Oberon" and "Der Freischuetz" for a season, for the Strauss "Alpine Symphony," some Mahler, Bruckner, Reger, or the later Jean Sibelius. [... weitere Lieder- und Pianistenwünsche ...].
When you fill my stocking never forget the extra supply of enthusiasm, and I shall remain
                  Devotedly yours,
                                         J. FRED LISSFELT."
