Bruckner wird in einer Buchbesprechung in The Times (New York) Nr. 11913 auf S. 19 in der 5. Spalte erwähnt:
" MUSIC AND MUSICIANS.
DICTIONARY OF MUSIC AND MUSICIANS.
Vol. IV. Edited by Sir GEORGE GROVE. London: MACMILLAN & Co. 1889.
The fourth volume of Sir George Grove's "Dictionary of Music and Musicians" extends from an account of the famous rota, "Sumer is icumen in," [...] to "Zwischenspiel," the German term for interlude. [...].
The fourth volume includes the appendix, which supplies many, though not quite all, of the deficiencies of the earlier volumes. The completion of this dictionary is welcome. [...].
Perhaps nothing will be more interesting to those acquainted with the first three volumes than a brief enumeration of the important additions in the appendix. Among the new subjects are Boito, Bottesini, the Breunings, Bruckner, Ole Bull, [... alphabetisch (u.a. "Recording Music Played Extemporaneously"), einige spezielle Beiträge ... einige leichte Mängelrügen ... amerikanisches Musikleben nicht gebührend berücksichtigt ... bisher nur deutschsprachige Lexika ...]. The publication of so ambitious a musical encyclopedia in English is, therefore, all the more welcome." [keine Signatur] (***).
