"           HISTORY AND BIOGRAPHY.
     Masters of German Music. By J. A. Fuller Maitland [siehe die Anmerkung]. (Osgood, M'Ilvaine & Co.).–This is at once the most useful and the most solid of the "Masters of Contemporary Music" Series so far as it has gone. [... Generaltenor "too catholic", "the narrative is unexceptionable", viel Neues für englische Leser ... Brahms, Max Bruch, Karl Goldmark ...]. Rheinberger, the organist, Joachim, Clara Schumann, Kirchner, Reinecke, Bargiel are more succinctly treated, and specially good bits of workmanship are the chapters devoted to "The Little Masters" (Herzogenberg, Bruckner &c.), and to New Paths, under which head come Richard Strauss, Nicodé, Hans Sommer, and Cyrill Kistler."
