Aufführung der 7. Symphonie unter Martin Spörr in Karlsbad (*).

 

In einer Buchbesprechung in The Manchester Guardian Nr. 18447 auf S. 5 wird bemängelt, dass Bruckner nicht berücksichtigt wurde:

"SIR HUBERT PARRY'S "SUMMARY OF MUSICAL HISTORY."

     Sir Hubert Parry's little manual, originally published in 1893, has always kept its position as the best short summary of the history of music. He has now brought out a new edition, "carrying the survey up to the end of the nineteenth century." Strauss thus comes under consideration [... über Programmmusik ...] Too much space is given in this final chapter to English music of a mediocre kind, and there are some serious errors and omissions. Weingartner is considered, but there is not a word of mention of Bruckner or of Mahler. [... über englische und andere Komponisten ... Kapitel "Lied" ungenügend ... keine Spuren einer "Revision" des Buches ...]. Altogether the book, good as it is, needs a further revision.     E. N." (**).
