Das bereits am 8.11.1913 und 23.11.1913 besprochene Buch erfährt auch in The Courier-Journal Nr. 16404 (Louisvill, Kentucky) auf S. 8 eine Würdigung:
"              MUSICAL INTERESTS
To his series, Symphonies and Their Meaning, Philip Goep [sic] now adds a third volume, Modern Symphonies. With an essay of general character he begins these studies–The Symphony During the Nineteenth Century. This is followed by chapters of analysis and interpretation devoted to Berlioz and Liszt, to [... sechs Namen ...], Sibellius [sic], Bruckner, Hugo Wolff, Richard Straus [sic], Sgambati and Martucci. [... Elgar und vier amerikanische Komponisten ...]. The student will find the volume helpful, though it may be hoped that he will not quote some of the more saccharine phrases of description. (J. B. Lippincott Co., Philadelphia)." (*).
