Tonal Excellence, With Barrere Ensemble, at Academy.
The opera house of the Academy of Music held a large audience, with many prominent Brooklynites, last night, on the occasion of the second invitation concert of the Choral Art Club of Brooklyn, in this season. [...].
The first number, Lotti's "Crucifixus," [ ... über dieses Werk ...].
The two Passion motets by Haydn [Michael Haydn], "Tenebrae" and "Caligaverunt Oculi Mei," part of a solemn penitential service, were sung with devotional simplicity, and were deeply impressive, and these were appropriately followed by the beautiful "Ave Maria" of Anton Bruckner. [WAB 6]
In lighter vein, in the second part of the programme, was [... die weiteren Werke ... Bläserensemble (unter dem Flötisten George Barrere) ...].
Alfred Y. Cornell directed the chorus work sympathetically and efficiently, and Sidney Dorion Lowe was an artistic and helpful accompanist on the pianoforte." [keine Signatur] (*).

             RELIGIOUS MOTIF PRESENT
Show Versatility Under Leadership of A. Y. Cornell.
The second private concert of the Choral Art Club, now in its third season, filled the opera house of the Academy of Music last night with a brilliant and enthusiastic audience, and extended to them a rare musical treat. No audience in the Academy has been more representative of the aristocratic and music-loving element of the borough.
The programme in two parts, began with solemn compositions of religious motifs, [...]. Alfred Y. Cornell directed the club.
"Crucifixus," by Antonio Lotti, introduced the first portion of the programme [... Josquin de Pres, Johann Michael Haydn ...].
Anton Bruckner's "Ave Maria," contrasted effectively, the women's and men's voices working up to a dramatic climax in the plea to the Virgin.
The Barrere Ensemble,–George Barrere playing the flute,–rendered Gounod's "Petit Symphony," [... Mozart, Elgar, Stanford (mit Thomas Chalmers), Cornelius, Gouvy und Garrett ...].
The active members are:     Sopranos [... Nennung aller Chormitglieder ... und der unterstützenden Mitglieder, der Vorstandsmitglieder etc. ...]." [keine Signatur] (**).
