The Brooklyn Times (The Times Union, Brooklyn, New York) berichtet auf S. 1 von einem Bruckner-Schüler (mit Abbildung):
" W. H. ROTHWELL ARION LEADER?
Preference of Society Has Shifted from Carl Hahn.
There has been another switch in the Brooklyn Arion's quest for a new musical director, and this time a commanding figure in the musical world emerges from the fray:
Walter Henry Rothwell.
When the Arion singers meet on Tuesday, the name of Mr. Rothwell will be proposed as successor to Eugene Klee, together with several others. Among the others is Carl Hahn, now conductor of the New York Arion [...].
If Rothwell comes here one of the country's finest musicians will devote part of his time to the extension of Brooklyn's artistic activities. [... geboren in London am 22.9.1872 (englischer Vater, österreichische Mutter, geb. Bertha Loevenberg, Pianistin) ... 1873/74 nach Wien ...].
His first lessons on the piano were given by his mother. He attended the University of Vienna and at the Royal Conservatory he studied piano under Julius Epstein, and harmony and counterpoint under Robert Fuchs and Anton Bruckner. At the University he heard the lectures of the famous music critic, Dr. Edward [sic] Hanslick, and won the first prize in the Royal Academy in 1889 for piano music, history and harmony.
After graduation he traveled through Germany, Switzerland and Austria [... 1894/95 unter Mahler in Hamburg, danach Breslau, Amsterdam, Boston (114 mal "Parsifal" auf USA-Tournee, später mit "Madame Butterfly"), 1908-13 Frankfurt ...]."
