     The Musical Art Society's programme for the second concert of its twenty-fifth anniversary season, on March 19 next, now in rehearsal, has been planned with the view of giving timely interest and variety to three main divisions, beginning and ending choral songs ancient and modern, religious and secular, while for the first time the society will introduce between these two groups some novelties inspired by the present war.
     Palestrina's name leads all the rest, with his "Stabat Mater," [...]. Lotti's "Crucifixus," for ten-part chorus, is an expression of poignant grief by means of sharp dissonances and stirring climax, strikingly novel even to modern hearers. Bruckner's "Ave Maria," for seven voice parts, is one of the society's more recent produtions, first sung here in December, 1913 [16.12.1913]. Bach's motet, "SingYe," an example of contrapuntal writing with which Part I closes, was the first piece sung by the Musical Art Society twenty-five years ago.
