Die Chicago Sunday Tribune Nr. 40 (The Chicago Tribune) schreibt auf S. 87[?] (= S. 1 des 8. Teils) über die Planung der Konzertsaison (mit Abbildung von Frederick Stock):

"Mr. Stock Comes Back with Plans for New Season

SIGNS of an approaching musical season are at hand, one of the most certain being that Frederick Stock has returned to the city. [... 28 Konzerte (je zwei Aufführungen) geplant ... konträre Ratschläge von Außenstehenden ...] no two outsiders ever agree about what ought to be done.

     "Please, Mr. Stock, may we not have all the Beethoven symphonies this season, with the Ninth for the last concert?" writes one. The next one inscribes: "For land's sake, don't play any more Beethoven symphonies this season. We have been fed up on them for the last thirty years. Get busy and give us something new! And not so much Wagner, either; it's old stuff, done to death. Put Brahms on the shelf at least six years and never touch Bruckner again. Give us Stravinsky, Schönberg, and Scriabine for a change and keep our programs more up to date."

     This good soul, comments Mr. Stock, forgets that there is little music by Stravinsky, Schönberg, or Scriabine that would not drive at least half the audience out of its seats, with the other half in an attitude of curiosity and scornful resentment.

     So the conductor is driven back among the classics [... hat Schumanns "Rheinische" bearbeitet ... geplante Novitäten, Solisten, Änderungen im Orchester (mit Namen) ...]." (°°).
