"RICHARD STRAUSS'S "ALPINE" SYMPHONY.

    The "Alpine" Symphony of Strauss will be given for the first time in Manchester at the Hallé concert on Thursday–two days after its first performance in England, which took place in London yesterday. In this work Strauss may be said to show his nearest approch to the music of Gustav Mahler and Bruckner, whose music has gradually come in Germany to a more general use and whose naïve exposition of nature in their music has proved rather a stumbling-block to English music-lovers.
