The Manchester Guardian Nr. 25968 bringt auf S. 12 eine am 21.11.1929 geschriebene und mit "E. B." signierte Besprechung des Londoner Konzerts vom 20.11.1929 mit der 8. Symphonie:

     Mrs. Samuel Courtauld, whose second concert took place at Queen's Hall last night, [... über Bruckners Stellung und Bedeutung ...] saying this is a big work, but not a great work. Its colossal dimensions are of themselves impressive, but it is rarely felt that they are adequately filled. [... zu Bruckners Stil ... Brahms' Verdikt "symphonic boa-constrictors" ... Bruckners Mängel und Schwächen ... Anerkennung in Deutschland und Österreich ... keine Anmerkungen zur 8. There were many rough places in the latter, but they somehow did not consort badly with the awkwardnesses of the music itself.             E. B."
