"     According to Le Guide Musical, Dr. Hans Richter tells the following story concerning a Maria Theresa [sic] thaler worn as a trinket on his watch chain. "It is a souvenir of a day on which I wept. I conducted for the first time, at rehearsal, a symphony by Anton Bruckner, who, though then an old man, had not yet won fame as a composer, and was not taken seriously, and hardly ever had his works performed. When I had finished Bruckner came to me, beaming with ecstatic looks and a happy smile. I felt him put something into my hand. "Take it," said he, "and drink my health in a glass of beer." Richter took the thaler, and preserves it in memory of an excellent man and of the tears which the old musician's naiveté compelled the conductor to shed." (*).

"     For the Hermann Wolff series of Berlin Philharmonic concerts, under Nikisch, next season, the following symphonies have been selected for production:
Sinfonia Domestica, Richard Strauss; Bruckner's third; Dvorak's fourth; Mahler's fifth. and symphonies by Beethoven, Brahms, Mendelssohn, Liszt (Faust) and Berlioz." (**).
