The New York Tribune Nr. 21847 bringt auf S. (= S. 5 des 5. Teils) einen Konzertbericht über das Salzburger Mozartfest, in dem auch die Aufführung der 9. Symphonie [am 17.8.1906] zur Sprache kommt:
"                         MUSICAL COMMENT.
The Mozart Festival at Salzburg–Programme of Worcester Festival.
[... Programm in Worcester (ohne Bruckner) ...]
A private letter from Mr. Sam Franko, who has spent the summer giving concerts and listening to music in Europe, gives a judicious survey of the recent Mozart festival in Salzburg, and is interesting as giving a New York view of that affair in which several artists known to our music lovers took part. Mr. Franko writes:
In casting a retrospect over the festival [... Don Giovanni (unter Reynaldo Hahn, 1 Probe! Regie Lilli Lehmann) und Le Nozze di Figaro (unter Mahler, Text von Max Kalbeck, für die Wiener Aufführung 40 Proben) (erwähnt werden u. a. Lilli Lehmann, Mme. Gadski, d'Andrade, Miss Farrar, später auch Guido Peters und Franz Bartholomey) ...].
[... 2 Orchester-, 1 Kammer- und 1 Kirchenkonzert ...]. The same orchestra (the famous Vienna Philharmonic) sounded different each time under the four conductors; amateurish under Hahn, rude under Mottl, spirited under Strauss and noble and perfect under Mahler. [... Rolle des Dirigenten! "L'orchestre c'est moi!" ... höchstes Lob für die Wiener Philharmoniker ...]. For me the greatest interest lay in the ninth symphony of Bruckner under Richard Strauss, and I must confess that it made a deep impression upon me, particularly the demoniac scherzo, which seems to me the most significant of all productions in the field of "new" music that I know. [... Kammermusik ... Michael Haydn ... Figaro als Abschluss wiederholt ...] the festival closed in a worthy and consistent manner, and now remains only as one of my loveliest memories."
