Aufführung der 3. Symphonie durch das Symphonieorchester Göteborg unter Wilhelm Stenhammar (*).

Besprechung des gestrigen Konzerts mit dem Quintett in The Boston Globe Nr. 124 auf S. 2:
"                  KNEISEL QUARTET
                                  [...]
The Kneisel Quartet–Messrs Kneisel, Letz, Svecenski and Willeke–began its 32d season yesterday at Steinert Hall with the first of the series of four concerts, which will be held in the afternoon instead of evening. The audience nearly filled the hall and was cordial. The program included Bruckner's quintet in F major for two violins, two violas and 'cello, with Louis Bostelmann as the second viola; [... Rubinstein, Beethoven ...].
The quintet opened the season cautiously. Perhaps the first work of the year should not be chosen with daring. But Bruckner was not merely a conservative. He can be seen in this music pottering about the classroom, expounding a detail, warning, admonishing, correcting. Literal, pedantic, dust-covered pages, with much that is hopelessly dull, with few momentary ideas that have beauty. There is the chief theme of the first movement, at once given out by the first violin, or thoughts in the slow movement escaping the childishness which some fondly believe is simplicity in Bruckner and naivete. Endless and reasonless repetition of an idea, a foolishly abrupt ending of movements, as a jack-in-the-box, needless length, the record of a limited and pedestrian imagination. The performance was the first at these concerts. Some applauded warmly.
     Rubinstein's sonata [... Willeke ...].
Mr Ebell, as a less experienced artist, played creditably, in many recpects well. [...]. The ensemble performance of the Bruckner was careful, painstaking and made no attempt to give rhetorical effect to uninspired measures." [keine Signatur] (**).
