Aufführung der d-Moll-Messe unter Carl Luze in einem Kirchenkonzert der Wiener Hofkapelle (*).

Aufführung der 5. Symphonie durch das Wiener Sinfonie-Orchester unter Franz Schalk in Linz (**).

The Observer Nr. 6749 (London) berichtet auf S. 9 von Äußerungen Nikischs zu seinen Konzertprogrammen:
"   NIKISCH & ENGLAND
           NOT COMING–YET.
                    [...]
(From Our Berlin Correspondent.)
Professor Arthur Nikisch was kind enough to give me an interview on behalf of THE OBSERVER. [... Interviews sind für ihn "horror" ... über England-Pläne ... Kulturhunger in Notzeiten ... Richard Strauss ... englisches Publikum ...].
        THE BRUCKNER CULT.
Eberybody in Berlin who goes to concerts knows quite positively that the famous "Dirigent" prefers to conduct a Tschaikowsky symphony rather than any other music. He laughed as he heard this story propounded once more.
"It is quite extraordinary how people seize hold of, and cling to, wrong ideas. I am particularly fond of Tschaikowsky, but he is by no means the first in the list. Beethoven, of course, Brahms and Bruckner, Wagner, Strauss, and Tschaikowsky. For years I have been making propaganda for Brückner and teaching people to appreciate him. Last year I conducted all nine of his symphonies. As for the Mahler cult now being carried on with such intensity, it will remain to be seen whether Mahler is to be granted a place among the immortals. I have my doubts. But Bruckner has been unduly neglected. He is coming into his own at last. Yes, it is quite possible to educate the taste of an audience in a given direction, and much of my effort has been directed towards Brückner."
[... über die Situation der Musiker und Zukunftspläne ...]. As for England, I shall come very gladly again. Some day." " (***).
