Aufführung der 4. Symphonie unter Nikisch im 9. Abonnementkonzert des Leipziger Gewandhauses (*).

Aufführung der 3. Symphonie durch das Wiener Tonkünstler-Orchester unter Anton Konrath im Großen Musikvereinssaal in Wien. Als Solist [in welchem Werk?] wirkt der Geiger Hugo Gottesmann mit (***).

In einem ausführlichen Artikel über eine Bearbeitung von Schumanns "Rheinischer Symphonie" in The New York Times Nr. 23353 auf S. 86 (= S. 4 des 6. Teils) kommen auch Kürzungen bei einer New Yorker Bruckner-Aufführung [vielleicht die 8. Symphonie am 28.11.1919 gemeint?] zur Sprache:
"MUSIC RESCORING A MASTERPIECE
FREDERICK STOCK, conductor of the Chicago Orchestra, at one of his recent concerts played a reorchestration, made by himself, greatly daring, of Schumann's "Rhenish" symphony in E flat. [... Beweggründe, Vorgehen ...].
     [... auch Schuberts C-Dur-Symphonie sollte bearbeitet werden ...]. They would not touch the instrumentation, but the redundancies, and conductors have been known to make cuts for this or that performance. But none has ventured to publish a revised and curtailed edition for others to inspect, criticise and use, as Harold Bauer has done of Schubert's B flat piano sonata – and has done so skillfully that he might well be urged to turn his attention to the symphony. And some will remember a performance here some seasons ago of one of Bruckner's huge and amorphous symphonies in which some of its excessive lengths were vigorously and none too judiciously hacked off, without any mention of it on the program.
     But reorchestrating a symphony is a much more serious and daring undertaking and means a much more drastic surgical operation. [...]." (°).
