Aufführung der ursprünglich für den 2./3.1.1931 angekündigten 9. Symphonie durch das Chicago Symphony Orchestra unter Frederick Stock um 20:15 Uhr in der Orchestra Hall in Chicago.

Auf dem Programm steht außerdem Chopins e-Moll-Klavierkonzert (mit Josef Hofmann).

"Josef Hofmann Draws Secrets Out of Pianos

[... über Chopins Klavierkonzert und den hochgelobten Solisten ...]. No one else gets the same sort of effects, or makes as little noise about getting them.

     You must yield to the mood to appreciate how lovely they are, just as you must yield to the mood of the symphony that Mr. Stock conducted just before. This was Bruckner's Ninth, or unfinished symphony, a spacious, leisurely, perhaps too leisurely work whose final movement is lacking. Its secret is that it is in the tempo of the horse-dawn vehicle, at times that of the ox cart, never in that of the automobile or the airplane. Bear that in mind and you are in for a delightful journey, and its length is by no means a fault." (***).
