"      IN THE WORLD OF MUSIC.
     Emil Paur, for the past five years the conductor of the Boston Symphony Orchestra, was elected yesterday to succeed the late Anton Seidl as conductor of the New York Philharmonic Orchestra. [...] he studied music at the Vienna Conservatory, where his teacher in the violin was Hallmesberger [sic], in theory Bruckner and in the piano Epstein, and where he took a first prize. [... Karrierestufen ...]. Wilhelm Gericke, who was conductor of the Boston Symphony Orchestra from 1884 to 1889, will return to this country to take the place again."
