Besprechung des gestrigen Konzerts in The Philadelphia Inquirer Nr. 133 auf S. 3: "                  PHILADELPHIA ORCHESTRA
Its Performance at the Academy of Music Yesterday Afternoon
There was another large audience at the Academy of Music yesterday afternoon, when the Philadelphia Orchestra, under the direction of Mr. Fritz Scheel, was heard in a program which had for its leading feature the E-flat major symphony of Bruckner, and which comprised the introduction to "Lohengrin" and Liszt's symphonic poem of "Tasso." The Bruckner symphony was in the nature of a novelty. It has been given here before, but not under Mr. Scheel's direction, and it was probably unfamiliar to the majority of those who heard it. It is not great music, and it communicates the impression of having been written with that kind of fluency which has been described as fatal, but its thematic material is always interesting and not infrequently beautiful, and its development exhibits constructive ability of no ordinary quality.
Of its four movements unquestionable the best and the most effective is the scherzo, which in the conciseness of its statements and the geniality of its material steadily and easily holds the attention of the listener, but it is all very well worth hearing, at least once, and if it suggests the "Im Walde" symphony of Raff, it does not suffer from the comparison which it invites. Nothing but praise can be said of its performance, which was in all respects, in its balance, in its lucidity and in its sympathetic eloquence, thoroughly satisfying and enjoyable. In the Wagnerian vorspiel [... über Henselts Klavierkonzert und den Solisten (besseres Cantabile wünschenswert) ...]. The same program in every respect will be given this evening." [keine Signatur] (°).

Aufführung der 4. Symphonie durch das Philadelphia Orchestra unter Fritz Scheel in Philadelphia. Es erklingen außerdem Werke von Richard Wagner ("Lohengrin"-Vorspiel), Henselt (Klavierkonzert mit Harold Randolph) und Liszt ("Tasso") [Wiederholung vom 9.11.1906] (°°).
