The San Francisco Examiner Nr. 23 berichtet auf S. 21, dass der Dirigent Frederick Schiller [Frederick G. Schiller, Frederick Guido Schiller] als Sechzehnjähriger von einer Aufführung der 5. Symphonie in München äußerst beeindruckt war:
"       FREDERICK SCHILLER IS DIRECTOR OF EXPERIENCE
Munich Was His Alma Mater and He Studied With Rheinberger, Thuille and Felix Mottl
[...]
It was in Munich that Mr. Schiller spent his Youth. [... Vater machte viel Kammermusik ...]. What wonder that the musical sap in little Frederick moved uneasily?
It was at a concert given in Munich that the lad recognized his destiny. The lad was then sixteen.
"They played the Third Brandenburg Concerto of Bach, 'Also sprach Zarathustra' and Bruckner's Fifth Symphony,' " said the musician. "I was in an indescribable state of excitement, especially during the performance of the Bruckner. That night I wandered forth from the city into the woods, thinking and dreaming till the dawn. When I returned home my mind was made up."
There was the usual parental opposition; [... Studium bei Rheinberger, danach Thuille, Dirigierkurs bei Mottl ... später in Nürnberg, Heilbronn, Teplitz ...].
Last came a season at Giessen, when his own "Faust" music was produced. To-day Frederick belongs to our metropolis of the West and we should be proud of him." (*).
