Datierung von Max Auers Vorwort zu Band II/2 (Notenband) von Göllerich/Auers Bruckner-Biographie (*).

 

The Manchester Guardian Nr. 24969 erwähnt im mit 31.8.1926 datierten Salzburger Musikbrief von Dr. A Eaglefield-Hull auf S. 9 auch die Aufführung der 8. Symphonie [am 27.8.1926]:

"STRAUSS & BRUCKNER AT SALZBURG.

[... über "Ariadne in Naxos" und die "Sinfonia Domestica" ...].

            Bruckner's Nine Symphonies.

     Anton Bruckner is to the Austrians what César Franck is to the French, and somewhat of what Elgar (four decades later) is to us. [... Würdigung von Bruckners Sonderstellung ... "His scherzi are like the gambellings of spiritual Titans" ...]. Franz Schalk, who conducted the Eighth Symphony here on August 28 [sic], is Bruckner's finest interpreter, and consequently received a great ovation.

     The new Festival Hall [... über das Festspielhaus und weitere Konzerte und Opernaufführungen ...]." (**).
