Im Stundenkonzert des Wiener Männergesangvereins (unter Carl Luze und Ferdinand Großmann) beim 10. Sängerbundesfest in Wien wird im Großen Musikvereinssaal Bruckners »traumschönes« »Um Mitternacht« [WAB 90] aufgeführt (*).
Besprechungen des gestrigen Konzerts mit der 4. Symphonie durch F. D. Perkins in der New York Herald Tribune:
"[...] The symphony has its attractive, even its impressive qualities. It has a tuneful romanticism, a naïve sincerity often giving a pleasing sense of freshness, an unsubtlety which is not necessarily a drawback, and outspoken, effective climaxes. But it is not concise – it took forty-seven minutes last night, but that was with cuts – and, in the first movement, Bruckner does not handle his themes adroitly enough to avoid a certain sense of iteration. [...]" (**)
und durch Edward Cushing in The Brooklyn Daily Eagle auf S. 8:
"Anton Bruckner's Symphony Dignifies a Stadium Concert Program.
IT WAS not Anton Bruckner's Seventh Symphony [...] but the Fourth, likewise known as the Romantic, Symphony. [... ausführlich zum Werk und zum Komponisten ... zur Aufführung (mit Strichen), Werke von Wagner, Grieg und Tschaikowsky ...]. Performances throughout the evening were excellent; the symphony had evidently been rehearsed." (***).
