Das Neue Wiener Journal Nr. 10044 kündigt auf S. 15 nochmals die Gedenkfeier der Gesellschaft der Musikfreunde am 30.10.1921 an (*).

 

Bei der Bruckner-Gedenkfeier des Kirchenmusikvereins Lainz-Speising werden das "Te Deum", der Chor "Um Mitternacht" [vermutlich WAB 89] und Mendelssohns "Athalia" aufgeführt (**).

 

The Observer Nr. 6804 (London) berichtet auf S. 8 von den Jubiläumsaktivitäten in Wien:

"           THE BRUCKNER CULT.

SEMI-JUBILEE CELEBRATION IN VIENNA.

      (From Our Own Correspondent.)

                                            VIENNA.

     The twenty-fifth anniversary of Anton Bruckner's death was commemorated by the unveiling of a new memorial tablet and several festival performances of some of his gigantic symphonies, of which the one of the Philharmonic Orchestra under Franz Schalk, the manager of the State Opera and Bruckner's pupil and faithful disciple, was the best. During the past twenty-five years the monumental work of Bruckner, grievously misunterstood for a long time, has found crowds of devoted admirers, despite his Wagnerisms, length, and other shortcomings. Bruckner never saw the day of his triumph, but his importance is now established beyond doubt and gains as time goes on.

    Of masters popular in London I should say that he most resembles Cesar Frank [sic] (especially the Symphony in D minor), but musicians here find him much greater than the Belgian composer. It seems high time, indeed, that, notwithstanding previous failures under Richter, Wood, and Nikisch, the leading British conductors should try to do his Symphonies, especially the Sixth, Seventh, Eighth, and Ninth. Sooner or later this great Austrian master with his deep religious emotion and perfectly unique Scherzo movements will surely come into his own also in England." (***).

 

Aufführung der 4. Symphonie durch das Blüthner-Orchester in Berlin (°).

 

Ankündigung einer Bruckner-Symphonie [prov. WAB 86] unter Paul Scheinpflug für die kommende Saison (4 Termine im Berliner Blüthner-Saal) und des Konzerts vom 7.11.1921 (9. Symphonie und "Te deum") in Inseraten im Berliner Volksblatt "Vorwärts" Nr. 501 auf S. 15 (°°).

 

Aufführung der 8. Symphonie (mit Kürzungen) durch das Orchester der Staatsoper Hamburg unter Wilhelm Furtwängler in Hamburg.

Auf dem Programm stehen außerdem Werke von Schubert (Wanderer-Fantasie mit Alexander Siloti) und Richard Wagner ("Holländer"-Ouvertüre). Wiederholung am 24.10.1921 (°°°).
