"State Symphony's First Concert
NEW YORK. Today.–The State Symphony Orchestra with Josef Stransky will join the music world in celebrating the centennial of the birth of Anton Bruckner on Wednesday evening, October 22, at Carnegie Hall. This will be the opening concert of the second season of the State Symphony Orchestra. The Symphony to be played is the Third of the noted Australian [sic] composer in D minor.
Bruckner was born at Ausfelden [sic] in Upper Austria on September 4, 1824. The son of the village schoolmaster, and the first of a round dozen of children, Anton was faced from the first by a struggle with poverty. Despite bitter handicaps he forged his way to an artistric eminence and a popularity which made him the idol of a host of music-lovers in Austria and Germany. That he rose high may be judged from the fact that he was at one period set up as a rival of the great Brahms and was considered a fourth B.
The rest of the program will be devoted to Wagner, to whom Bruckner's Third Symphony is dedicated. The program in full is as follows:
1. Wagner . . . . . . . . . .  "A Faust Overture"
2. Bruckner . . . . Symphony No. 3 D minor
3. Wagner [... Rienzi, Träume, Tannhäuser ...]." (°).
