Besprechung des gestrigen Konzerts in The Boston Globe Nr. 4 auf S. 2:

"    HOLBROOKE'S TONE POEM IMPRESSIVE

[...]

     Dr Muck reappeared as conductor at the 11th Symphony rehearsal yesterday afternoon, after his absence of three weeks through illness, and received a spontaneous and hearty welcome. The length of the program was unusual, being well over two hours to the conclusion of the Bruckner symphony.

     Josef Holbrooke's "Queen Mab" was played for the first time in Boston. [... ausführlich zum Werk und zur Komponisten ...].

     Miss Elena Gerhardt, as soloist, sang the recitative and aria "Quella fiamma," by Benedetto Marcello; [... Gluck, Richard Strauss ...]. The singer was enthusiastically applauded.

     Bruckner's seventh symphony, which closed and unduly prolonged the program, again compels wonder that any man could combine pages which contain the beauty and impressiveness of certain of those in the slow movement and parts of the first with others of such emptiness and bombast. The inherent commonness of the scherzo and finale was hardly obscured by the refinement of Dr Muck's reading. Brahms' "Academic Overture" opened the program.
